staggering height of 220 meters (722 feet), Diyaluma is the second-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.

It stands as a majestic curtain of water that plunges down a sheer, unbroken cliff face before

crashing into the plains below.

The true allure of Diyaluma lies not at the roadside viewing bridge at the bottom, but at its

remote upper escarpment, accessible via a rugged trek through the rural hillsides of Koslanda.

The trail to the top takes hikers through tall Mana grasslands and shaded rubber plantations,

eventually emerging onto the smooth bedrock where the river flows toward the drop. Here, the

river has carved a spectacular series of natural, crystalline infinity pools directly into the granite

riverbed over thousands of years.

Exploring the upper falls is an unforgettable experience. Travelers can safely swim in these cool,

flowing mountain pools, jumping from smooth rock ledges into deeper basins under the

supervision of local guides. The ultimate highlight is the absolute edge of the main fall, where

the water glides smoothly over a curved rock lip before dropping 220 meters into the abyss.

Standing securely in a calm pool just a few feet away from this massive vertical drop offers a

thrilling blend of natural beauty and adrenaline, complete with a sweeping view across the

valleys of the deep south.
