colonial era. The lake was constructed in 1873 under the direction of British Governor Sir

William Gregory, who ordered a swampy stream to be dammed to create a water feature for

boating, fishing, and water sports, transforming the town into a fully functional holiday

resort.

Today, Gregory Lake is surrounded by a beautifully landscaped park featuring paved

walkways, green lawns, and seating areas. The lakefront comes alive during the afternoon,

attracting both locals and travelers who gather to enjoy the cool mountain air and lakeside

activities.

Visitors can explore the water by renting swan-shaped paddleboats, booking a fast jet ski ride,

or climbing aboard a large motorboat for a cruise around the lake. The surrounding paths

provide opportunities for pony rides and family picnics, while a collection of lakeside chalets

and food stalls sell hot snacks, street food, and warm drinks. The lake reflects the surrounding

pine trees and colorful colonial-era holiday homes, making it an excellent spot for a relaxing

stroll as the evening mist rolls into the valley.
