A visit to the Pedro Tea Estate provides a comprehensive look into the step-by-step process of

tea production, which has remained largely unchanged since the 19th century. The experience

begins in the emerald-green fields, where travelers can watch Tamil tea pluckers move across

the steep slopes, selecting only the delicate "two leaves and a bud" from each plant. Visitors

can walk along the narrow pathways between the bushes to learn about the strict agricultural

practices required to maintain the plants.

The journey continues inside the historic, multi-story processing factory, where the air is thick

with the rich, grassy scent of drying leaves. Guides lead visitors past heavy, original British-

made machinery to demonstrate the stages of tea processing: withering, rolling, fermenting,

drying, and mechanical sorting. Because the delicate leaves grown at Pedro require gentle

handling, the factory operates primarily at night when temperatures are cooler. The tour
